Kanin Ski Resort, overlooking the Soca Valley, is high enough that there is often still snow in spring. However, while it is possible, why rush? Slovenia has so much to offer that there is plenty you can fit in on even the shortest of visits. And there is plenty of water in the mountains too.The Soca Valley is a spectacle not to be missed at any time of the year. This lush green valley is irrigated by the Soca River, which thunders out of the Julian Alps and meanders through the valley, forming beautiful gorges along the way. Around Bohinj, and in the Soca Valley, you can kayak or raft the whitewater rapids of the surrounding rivers through gorges, and even try canyoning. Also, there are plenty of great rock faces for rock climbing enthusiasts.Karst Caves and Cured HamIn the karst region of the west, the limestone landscape is riddled with so many caves and subterranean tunnels that it has more holes in it than a lump of Swiss cheese. Underground you can visit gigantic cave systems, or even don a hard hat and go pot holing with an expert guide. The fertile soil above is perfect for making red wine, which you can enjoy at a tourist farm along with the famous Pršut, Slovenian karst ham which is air-dried by the Bora wind.Historic Castles and Wine RoadsThe Subpannonia in the eastern part of Slovenia comprises the Sava, Drava and Mura river valleys. This region is famous for its sunny wine roads, winding through beautiful low green hills dotted with vineyards and hilltop castles and churches.
