DMC Ljubljana

DMC Ljubljana – 10 of the Best Things to do in Ljubljana / Organised by your DMC Ljubljana

At just 163 sq kms in size and a population of only 288,000, Ljubljana might not compare in size to some of the mightier European capitals, but it packs a punch when it comes to beauty, sights and a plethora of things to do. As the region’s leading DMC, Ljubljana is our base and our home. We know it like the back of our hands.

Ljubljana is a picturesque city, blending baroque and renaissance architecture from outside influences with the stunning designs of Slovenia’s most famous architect Joze Plecnik. Slovenes themselves are outdoor people, and that includes city dwellers. You’ll find the streets of Ljubljana alive with locals and visitors alike, at all times of the year.

But the beauty of the city is in its compact size, meaning everything is within walking distance. This also means our DMC Ljubljana can ensure you get the most out of the short time you may have here, and fill your days and nights with a variety of activities. To give you an idea, here are just 10 of the best things to do in Ljubljana.

1: Ljubljana Photo Adventure

While we may all be a bit biased at our DMC, Ljubljana is without doubt a picturesque location and you’ll no doubt want to capture many great photos. So how about first getting a few tips from our local National Geographic photographer? Well that’s exactly what will happen on this photo adventure challenge. This is more than just taking photos, it will challenge the participants to improve their photography skills also. Our National Geographic photographer will show you photos of Ljubljana and give you some tips and tricks. Your task is then to head out, find these locations and not only capture your own, but get creative. At the end our photographer will judge the results and select a winner over dinner.

2: The DMC Ljubljana Beer Walk

Not only is Ljubljana a great place to see, it’s a great place for craft beer. This walk will take you around many great establishments that serve these, from craft beers brewed in Slovenia, to ones brewed in other nearby countries; a must for beer-lovers.

3: Unlock Ljubljana

This interactive adventure will challenge the detective in you. Taking place in the beautiful old town of Ljubljana, you’ll be given a book in which many hidden secrets are waiting to be unlocked. This 60-minute activity will test and hone your skills. You’ll decipher codes, crack passwords and solve riddles. It’s a unique and fun way to see the city centre only offered by our DMC. Ljubljana is waiting to be unlocked.

4: Standup Paddleboarding on the Ljubljanica

The Ljubljanica River bisects the city and is a great way to view the beautiful architecture, from its bridges, buildings to the medieval castle on the hill. But also, you’ll see how green Ljubljana is as you float lazily past hanging willow trees and green riverbanks. But instead of the usual boat tours, you’ll do it on a SUP (Standup Paddleboard). How’s that for something different?

5: Boat Trip on the Ljubljanica

If you’re not one for supping, then try our boat trip by day or night. Legend has it that Jason and his Argonauts sailed through here in search of the Golden Fleece, and stopped nearby for the winter. Obviously they were also captivated by Ljubljana’s beauty. By day it’s a sightseeing trip, and at night it’s a party boat.

6: Five Senses of Ljubljana

Smell, see, touch, hear and taste Ljubljana on this 2-hour tour of the best the city has to offer. Smell and taste the fine wines and great food of Slovenia. See the city through the eyes of Slovenia’s best photographer. Hear the traditional Slovenian Zither, a special string instrument. Touch the local culture by learning a very special Slovenian folk dance.

7: Cooking Class in Ljubljana

Learn to cook Slovenian-style. In this 2-4 hour cooking class, our DMC Ljubljana will hook you up with famous local chefs, who will teach you the secret to making great Slovenian dishes.

8: Food Market or Food Walk

If you love food but cooking is not your forte, then we can arrange a special outdoor food market, comprising all manner of delectable Slovenian delights for you to try, such as Bohinj cheese, Slovenian honey and Tolmin cottage cheese. Or try our special DMC Ljubljana Food Walk, where we’ll take you to several famous locales for great traditional food from all across Slovenia.

9: Gala Dinner and Opera

How about having an opera house all to yourselves? Well that’s one of the many advantages of using our DMC. Ljubljana Opera House was built in 1892 and is one of many great places to visit in Ljubljana. But we can arrange private performances followed by a private gala dinner backstage. With a capacity of 526 seats, it’s perfect for big company events.

10: Slovenian Evening

Experience the whole of Slovenia in just one evening. Our DMC Ljubljana will arrange a special event in one nearby restaurant where you’ll be greeted by a folkdance group performing to live traditional music, followed by fun folk games in which you’ll be encourage to participate, a great way to work off all the food you’ll be eating.

And that’s not all

This is of course, just the tip of the iceberg. There is so much more to do and see in the home of our DMC. Ljubljana is just waiting to be discovered.
