DMC Zagreb – Great Restaurants in Zagreb

Croatia is well known for its culinary delights, and Zagreb is not short of quality restaurants serving up all manner of dishes. This part of Croatia is known for its special blend of Hungarian, Viennese and Turkish cuisine, and the perfect place to enjoy this is in one of the many restaurants in the lower town, amid the beauty of the secessionist, neobaroque and art deco buildings. Other parts of the city are equally impressive. As your local DMC Zagreb, we ensure that all your MICE activities include access to the best restaurants that Zagreb has to offer. Here are 14 of the best.

1: Zinfandel\’s Restaurant

Located in the luxurious Esplanade Zagreb Hotel, which was once a stopping point for passengers on the Orient Express, Zinfandel’s uses the finest local ingredients to create a sublime international array of dishes. These also include special gluten free options, or a vegetarian menu created to strict Halal standards. The name derives from the Zinfandel grape which was exported to the USA from Dalmatia in the early 19th century.

2: Dubravkin Put

A restaurant in a forest in the city centre, yes you read that correctly. Perfectly located in the Tuskanac forest, just a few steps away from the heart of the city, Dubravkin Put is both a restaurant and a wine bar. Its modern, cosy interior is surpassed only by the beautiful terrace view of the forest stretching right up the foothills of Mount Medvednica; a perfect accompaniment to any incentive. There’s even a private room for special corporate events, or confidential business lunches.

3: Batak Grill Cvjetni

For a more gritty, atmospheric dining experience try Batak Grill Cvjetni, with its brick wall interior, rustic decor and array of grilled dishes such as mazalice, vjesalice, muckalice (spreaders, hangers, shakers) and others.

4: Vinodol

With a capacity for 280 diners, 100 in the spacious outdoor seating area, Vinodol is a great choice in the heart of the city centre. The restaurant serves both traditional and Mediterranean dishes, blending local recipes with modern approaches. Throughout history, Vinodol has been a popular meeting place for both business people and tourists alike.

5: Gallo

Tucked quietly away in the basement of the Castellum Centre, this elegant little restaurant invokes a warm welcome as you enter to the sight of fresh produce displayed all around. Fresh seafood and homemade pasta are the house specialties, served with a great choice of fine wines.

6: Boban

Owned by Croatian footballer Zvonimir Boban, this is a popular spot in the centre with a café bar on the ground floor and the main restaurant situated in the cool atmosphere of the red-brick basement. Serving fresh, homemade Italian dishes just like mama makes. Business dinners, events and lunch meetings are welcomed here and the staff caters to your personal needs.

7: Restorant Lanterna na Dolcu

Situated near the Dolac open-air marketplace, beside the main square, Restorant Lanterna na Dolcu is another basement establishment where you can dine under a vaulted ceiling of red brick and warm, soft lighting. This is a great place to try old traditional Zagreb food from two local brothers who buy much of their produce from the Dolac marketplace, thus guaranteeing freshly cooked food on a daily basis.

8: Okrugljak

Established in 1913, Okrugljak recently celebrated 100 years of service. As the oldest restaurant in Zagreb, Okrugljak is located slightly away from the centre but in an idyllic location next to a stream with a water mill. Its wooden interior complete with wooden-beamed high ceiling invokes an age-old atmosphere. Add to that its menu based on traditional Croatian dishes with fresh seasonal produce, you can easily see why this is a popular place for MICE and incentives, all arranged by your local DMC Zagreb.

9: Apetit City Restaurant & Bar

Another choice in the heart of the city centre, Apetit offers middle-European dishes with a hint of Mediterranean influence. This is a modern, stylish place with large bay windows allowing lots of light to flood into its already bright interior. It’s an ideal place for a business lunch.

10: Noel

Probably the highlight of this place is the “chef’s table”, where you can get the chance to watch Goran Kocis, the award winning chef working his magic. There is such a wealth of dishes here that diners are hard pushed to decide which of the delectable delights they should try. To this end the owners have created 4, 6, and 9-course tasting menus.

11: Pod Zidom bistro & wine bar

Everything is made from scratch here, even the sauces and delicious deserts. Also located close to the Dolac market, many of the ingredients are bought here daily. This is a modern, trendy venue that also offers an a la carte seasonal menu. There is a high quality wine list, along with a house champagne cocktail. It’s located on a quiet street near the main Zagreb Cathedral. Ask your DMC to book you a seat out on the terrace for a great view of the cathedral.

12: Agava

Located in one of the oldest and most vibrant streets in Zagreb, this homely restaurant is built into a hillside. Watch life pass you by from the large windows inside or from its stately terrace as you dine on sumptuous Croatian dishes such as pork chops from local Slavonian black pigs.

13: ManO

Just a ten-minute walk from the main Jelacic square, this superb restaurant is ideal for business events. The owners are experienced in hosting MICE events and their location in the historic Glipoteka Building provides an elegant décor that cannot fail to impress. Its former use as a leather factory is evident in its high ceilings and exposed wooden panels. The open kitchen provides a fascinating insight into how the chefs work.

14: Bistro Apetit

Not to be confused with the restaurant of the same name, Bistro Apetit is run by world famous chef Marin Rendic, who’s known from shows such as Masterchef and Grill Boss. He’s also worked in some of the top 10 restaurants around the world. In his own bistro he serves up some of his best creations.

Difficult choice

So when trying to decide which restaurant is best suited to your meeting or incentive, it’s always best to consult your DMC. Zagreb, as you have seen, leaves you spoiled for choice.
